Dear Rolling Hills Family,
Deuteronomy 6 includes a challenge from God to parents to impart their faith to their children in all walks of life. For many parents, it’s easy to outsource the discipleship of their kids to the church and its paid staff. But, in order to own a Deuteronomy 6 lifestyle, it would be really powerful if every parent gave one service a month to help in our Children’s ministry. You may wonder how just one service would help, but I can see a number of immediate results:
- We wouldn’t need to continually plead for volunteers.
- Our weekly safety ratios would be met and we wouldn’t have to close any classes.
- As a parent, you would learn how to better relate to your own kids by being exposed to, and building into, their friends.
- Our paid children’s staff could focus more on equipping and helping, rather than on constantly recruiting and filling holes in staffing.
I would also love to see our whole church follow the lead of the parents and take one service a month to build into our kids:
- It would be so fun to see adult Community Groups serve together each month.
- Student groups could serve once a month and invest in younger students who look up to them.
- Families with older kids could serve together as a team.
Since more than two-thirds of our weekend church attendance happens at 11 AM, it would be awesome if people would serve at 11 AM and attend service at 9 AM. All you have to do is CLICK HERE to see the many ways you can contribute to making young disciples in the TreeHouse.
I'd encourage you to check out the impactful and hilarious YouTube video about serving in children’s ministries: http://youtu.be/Kq_Js2cDKYs
The bottom line is that Jesus challenged His disciples to not hinder the children from coming to Him. His heart was for children to fall in love with Him. When we serve, we join the heart of Jesus for children and shape a generation for years to come.
Thanks for taking time to read this important message!
For our children’s sake,
Mark
