Rafting and Fishing the Dechutes (Excellent info from our resident fly fishing expert, Jeff Mattson!)
When: Salmon Fly Hatch is around Memorial Day Weekend through the first couple of weeks in June.
Float: Put in at Warm Springs or Trout Creek and take out at Harpham Flats (between 40-46 river miles).
Caution: Dangerous rapids should be negotiated only by individuals with years of experience rowing Buckskin Mary, Whitehorse, and Chutes Rapids. For groups lacking someone with experience guiding on the Deschutes, its recommended that you contact The Deschutes Angler: http://www.deschutesangler.com/Fly+Fishing for guide service. If your group pays for a guided 2-day trip (learn the fishing tactics) and then take a couple days to camp and fish at one of the many drive-in campsites above Harpham Flats, you'll have a blast at a rate you can afford. NO ONE should row through the rapids mentioned above without having done them several times each before leading a group.
Duration: Perfect 5 night, 6 day float. Still very enjoyable at 4 nights, 5 days.
Fishing Gear needs: License (annual or per day freshwater for trout...no steelhead/salmon tag necessary), 5 or 6 weight fly rods, floating line, 3x leader, 3x tippet, floatant, Summer waders, felt boots, polarized sunglasses, flies: Norm Wood and Clark’s Stone is all you need. Fly shop in town: River City Fly Shop (off Scholl’s Ferry).
Raft rentals: Deschutes U-boat: (541) 395-2503 (best on the river and will shuttle your vehicle from the put-in to down river). Each person on a raft must purchase Boater’s Passes for the days on the water: http://www.boaterpass.com/Forms/BoaterPassHome.cfm
Packing: You’re tent camping and cooking all your own stuff. No fires allowed beginning June. Vaulted toilets in all main campsites on river. Email becky.lomax@rollinghills.org if a more detailed packing list is needed.

Up in the Mountains:
Trillium Lake Snowshoe Adventure
http://summitmeadow.com/
< back
Here is an idea from a Trillium Lake veteran: Cross-country ski or snowshoe into the Summit Meadows Cabin at night with headlamps and sleds carrying gear. The cabins have a wood stove & firewood, electric heat, toilets, beds, linens, kitchen, fridge, stove, oven and sink. Pack your own food/beverages, guitar, wool socks, a good hat, outer wear, and you're set for days! You can rent your gear in Government Camp (just be sure to pick-up and drop-off during business hours...things close early on the mountain).

6 Battles Every Man Must Win (Bill Perkins) 4 Sessions
The story of David's "mighty men" (primarily found in 2 Samuel 23) drives this challenging and encouraging book for Christian men. The mighty men weren't drafted into David's army because of their impressive resumes. They were broken men who, given an opportunity to achieve greatness, responded like champions. The author uses the story to illustrate the six battles David's men fought and men today must win to become powerful and effective warriors in God's kingdom.
