SCRIPTURE: Read Isaiah 6:1-8, Proverbs 3:5,6, Galatians 2:20
STUDY: Isaiah was a man in the Bible who had an encounter with God. Read it with your family in Isaiah 6:1-8. What was the question that God asked Isaiah? How did Isaiah respond? Can we volunteer like this to serve God? But how? Where? When?
The message that God had Isaiah give the people was not an easy one to give or listen to. But God has a good one for us to give. What is that message is? (John 3:16)
Fast forward to 21st century Oregon: Jesse is a boy that goes to our church. Jesse believed God was asking him to tell other kids in his class at school about Jesus when they were out at recess. Jesse quit worrying about what others would think of him and began talking to kids about his best and forever friend, Jesus. Some kids he knew; many he did not. Jesse became known as the playground missionary! Many kids began asking Jesus to be their Forever Friend. Jesse was then concerned that these kids could not get to know Jesus better and so he began bringing Bibles for them to read. This took a lot of courage, a lot of risks, but Jesse knew this is what God wanted him to do.
CHALLENGE: Start doing the things that you know God wants you to be doing every day! And then start looking for opportunities to carry out the “Great Commission” in your life. Here’s how you can be prepared to take a risk for God:
• Read your Bible
• Read stories about other people who have learned how to follow Jesus
• Pray to God throughout the day. And remember, prayer is not just talking to God but it is also taking time to listen to Him.
• Surrendering to God like Jesus did and say: “Not my will but Yours be done.” Some verses you can read together about this are: Proverbs 3:5-6 and Galatians 2:20. What is something that would be really hard to give up right now but you know if you did, you would become more like Jesus?
As a fun activity this week, get the family together and create a magazine ad for this week’s Bible study and title it: “Wanted: Risk Takers for God.” Let your kids create this poster using their imagination of what this risk-taking adventure will bring in their lives. Suggest to your children that they bring their creations to church next week to share with their small group.
KEY POINT: Risk: Live Before You Die, and Vice Versa
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me be obedient to the calling you have given me in my life, and help me show my love for You by being obedient in those things that I know I should be doing right now. I give my life you right now Lord, trusting you for everything. Here am I…send me, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
