Teen Sexuality Parent Class

Talking with your teenagers about their sexuality can be very intimidating. Today more than ever, our teenagers are being bombarded by false information about their sexuality. They have a desperate need to be taught Biblical truth. If we do not commit to giving them God’s loving counsel, our sons and daughters will not be equipped to resist the destructive temptations they face.

Clearly, God has ordained us as parents to be our children’s primary agent of change in their lives. It is our responsibility to train and equip them, with practical tools, and Biblical truth that will help them live whole lives pleasing to God. Parents need to take a more active role in helping their children gain a better understanding of sexuality and cultivate practical values that could govern their behaviors from a Biblical perspective.

The purpose of this class series is to help you prepare your son or daughter for adulthood, the common barriers that inhibit parental moral teaching, and Biblical principles to help you break down those barriers. This class will help you understand God’s plan for sexuality, and teach you the basic principles of how to talk specifically to your kids about sex.

This class series seeks to equip you with tools to provoke meaningful discussion on the topic of sexuality and convey these principles to your teens on an individualized basis. You will learn what young people are exposed to sexually and how to combat the influence of today’s sexual revolution with Biblical values and wise boundaries.

At the end of this class series you will be able:

    1. To have a deeper understanding of your own sexuality and God’s plan for sex.
    2. To understand why it’s important to discuss sexual issues with your spouse.
    3. To implement basic principles of how to talk to your kids about sex in every age category.
    4. To create a better understanding of the youth sexual culture.
    5. To understand sexual identity and sexual development.
    6. To develop teachable sexual values for governing behaviors.
    7. To implement some practical suggestions for protecting, creating dialogue and
        problem-solving in the sexual arena.

Travis Waits, our Wholeness Ministries Pastor at RHCC, will facilitate this class series. Travis is a licensed professional  counselor and marriage & family therapist. Prior to his work as a therapist, he worked as a pastor of youth & families. Other parents and professionals who desire to meaningfully equip you to be effective with this subject in your relationship with your son or daughter will join him in presenting.

There is no fee for this class series, however, we encourage you to register for the class by emailing Becky, calling the church at 503-638-5900, or writing “Teen Sexuality” on a welcome card during the main service.
